The gold and silver objects at the Dresden Treasury inspired this elegant cup and cover. Nephrite, a type of jade, was a favored hardstone of the Fabergé firm. It is decorated with nautical details, including three gilded silver feet in the form of hippocampi—mythical creatures of the sea that are half horse and half fish—and Neptune’s trident, which surmounts the cover. The rim is chased with scrolling foliage and set with cabochon rubies and sapphires.
