Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa
Overall: 14 × 8 × 8 1/2 in. (35.56 × 20.32 × 21.59 cm)
The extreme abstraction of this mask is eye catching and creates an otherworldy appearance. It is one of four types of masks the Lwalu employ in performances held to appease the spirits, increase hunting success, initiate new numbers of the ruling bangogo society, or celebrate the life of a deceased leader.
