On each side of this box, inscribed scrolls, or banderoles, display a biblical verse set within a stylized oak leaf and acorn motif. This motif seems to be inspired by the coat of arms on the left and right sides featuring a tree and a double-headedeagle, possibly the arms of the della Rovere family (meaning "of the oak"). Under the lid, a sixth inscription in Greek reads "ΠΑΝ ΜΕΤΡΟΝ ΑΡΙΣΤΟΝ" (All things in moderation). This box likely would have held costly spices or herbs, and the lid inscription reminds the owner not to overindulge in its contents.
Unsigned.
