The lotus was an attribute of Nefertem, the god of fragrance. This statuette’s lotus-blossom crown symbolizes rebirth (the lotus closes each night and reopens the next day). Traces of inlay remain in the crown (glass), eyes (gold), and chin-strap (copper).
