A translation of the inscription reads: “With the Blessing of the Russian Monastery of the Great Martyr and Healer Saint Panteleimon on Holy Mount Athos to His Imperial Highness, Heir and Grand Duke Alexei.” This icon once hung in Alexei’s bedroom at the Alexander Palace.

The back of this icon is inscribed in Russian “With the Blessing of the Russian Monastery of the Great Martyr and Healer Saint Panteleimon on Holy Mount Athos to His Imperial Highness, Heir and Grand Duke Alexei Nikolaevich for grace-filled help, protection, and intercession.”
