Completed on two sliding cabinet doors, this painting exhibits a unique composition. The artist depicts the most popular Japanese flowers of the spring and summer, including plum blossoms, irises, hydrangeas, carnations, and morning glories. The carefully rendered blossoms and intense contrasting colors give these panels a more decorative, rather than naturalistic, quality. The lower left signature reads “Atsu,” suggesting this work was painted by a female artist.
