The Ogoni people create masks that are relatively realistic in style. Some depict a handsome face, while others show deformity. These two types of masks sometimes perform together, acting out contrasts between beauty and ugliness. In this example, the addition of antelope horns to the human head associates the antelope’s grace and speed with the mask’s human qualities.
