This charming picture shows Krishna, again, with Radha. The pair stand on a fanciful lotus swing suspended from a tree in the forest. Four assisting maidens set the mood: one swings the couple, another plays a stringed instrument, and the remaining two dance. Drawn by the spectacle, cows and a variety of birds observe the divine love play. The vibrantly colored picture combines stylistic elements from several Rajasthani painting traditions. The river and its contents, as well as the cows, recall paintings from Bundi and Kota. The elongated eyes of the gopis and their close grouping resemble Kishangarh conventions. The sky, with its stylized clouds, relates to Jodhpur painting. Finally, the tall willowy female figures recall 18th-century pictures from Malpura, near Jaipur.
