A variety of paper fragments, pasted in concentric spirals, covers the canvas of this mixed-media composition. The image includes a diagonally angled glass in the upper left and another glass, perhaps a beer mug or carafe, standing upright near the center. Charcoal outlines render these transparent objects visible against the imitation wood grain and paper fragments, and white gouache indicates reflected light on their surfaces. Two pieces of actual tobacco packaging represent the packetof tobacco at the upper right. This interplay of diverse materials gives the image its visual and intellectual excitement.
