Curator’s Choice Lecture | Percy Rainford: Surrealism’s Invisible Photographer

Smoking Irving

Join Dr. Michael R. Taylor, Chief Curator and Deputy Director for Art and Education, for a talk on the life and work of the Jamaican-born, American photographer Percy Rainford (1901-1976). Taylor recently published a book on Rainford’s remarkable and heretofore overlooked contributions to Surrealism in the post-World War II era. This talk, which is drawn from extensive interviews with the artist’s family and archival research, will explore the artist’s photographs, as well as his friendships and collaborations with such cultural luminaries as Marcel Duchamp, Peggy Guggenheim, and Frederick Kiesler.
