Congratulations to VMFA Class of 2015!

French Horse Exhibition Seminar Professors  Jeffrey Allison (VMFA Paul Mellon Collection Educator), Dr.  Mitchell Merling (VMFA Paul Mellon Curator and Head of the Department of European Art), and Richard Waller (Director of Museums, University of Richmond) wish to congratulate their students and also to thank them for their participation in this exciting project, which has garnered significant press attention. According to Merling:

“The students did the artworks proud. They profoundly realized the primary duties of the curator – to know the essence of an object and to be able to communicate that knowledge in a museum setting through exhibition design and didactics, as well as educational programs.”

This experimental course will result in an exhibition entitled The French Horse from Gericault to Picasso which will be presented in 2016, first at the University of Richmond’s Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art, then at the National Sporting Library and Museum in Middleburg, and finally at the University of Mary Washington Galleries in Fredericksburg.

This program and exhibition were partially supported by the Paul Mellon Endowment.
