Explore how the Greeks and Romans viewed Africa through the life and writings of the Apuleius, author of the ancient Roman novel The Golden Ass and other writings. Drs. Peter Schertz and Patrice Rankine will discuss Apuleius’ pride in his North African heritage and the connections between the diversity of the ancient Mediterranean world and its art and literature. This program is inspired by the special exhibition, Treasures of Ancient Egypt: Sunken Cities and the The National African American Read-In that VMFA participates in every February.
