The Unexpected Visitor

Wesselyn Campbell

The day arrived with a bang. I looked with boredom at the sky. The clouds were kissing, and their lips formed a dark smile. Also, tears burned me.

He thought to himself that he once loved a woman.

“I loved you,” Miguel thought, as he continued his photography session with Adrianna.

Her favorite past-time was walking like a zombie to the land where the grass was green, which rose up like bamboo shoots brushing up against her legs. It was wonderful. She plopped down on the plush green grass and the dirt rose up like dust and covered her white skirt and blue top. Adrianna arranged herself carefully for Miguel to continue with the photo shoot. This has been the second photo shoot for her but the first photo school with Miguel.

Adrianna, although astute, was not the kind of girl that put up a fight. She allowed Miguel to move her like a mannequin. She did not want to move but she did—to the leg-tucked position with a book in her hand, opened to a page she was not interested in reading.

Miguel told Adrianna, “You have big lips.”

Did Miguel really believe that Adrianna would respond to his pick-up lines? Obviously, since she flashed him a big smile and her teeth glistened at his response. She was interested in what he said but hid herself behind the book in her hand.

She finally responded to Miguel with a squeal, “I am trapped, sweating, and not wearing makeup, because I did not have time to put it on this morning before the photo shoot, but I am still waiting to feel your arms entangled with mine.”

Miguel was in the capital of France before the photo shoot and two weeks later he was in an affair with Adrianna, a young lady with long fingernails. She used them to scratch the negatives from his camera when he was preparing them for developing. Miguel did not love Adrianna and this was what he was thinking about during the photo shoot.

Two months later, Miguel’s wife, Anna, decided to come to the photo shoot that he had planned with Adrianna. Anna had a thin face and a long neck and always wore a blue and white tinted dress that flowed down to her small ankles. Her ankles were bent like a tree branches from a wind storm. She noted how the grass was green and the trees just as green as the trees in the spring time. Anna began painting a portrait of Adrianna and named it Docentes.

Anna said to Adrianna, “I can see why my husband would want to take pictures of you; you have big lips.”

Miguel groaned angrily at his wife and Adrianna continued to look at the book while Anna continued to paint. Anna then realized that Miguel was trying to befriend her for unknown reasons and that nature, had the effect of enticing people to paint lovely pictures of each other and take many photo shoots.

Adrianna does not think of Miguel because during the photo school and portrait painting, she befriended Anna.

Adrianna and Anna said at the same time to Miguel, “Thank you for the opportunity for this nature scene; maybe we can do this again someday.”

Miguel pulled Adrianna in for a hug and replied, “I loved you,” and she moved away slowly after the hug.

Anna and Miguel walked off and Adrianna sat back down and stayed there for the rest of the night.
