turn the VMFA campus into an active cultural center where people will
see and experience art at its very best
Rick Mather Architects. An American architect based in
London, Rick Mather leads an internationally acclaimed firm, one of England’s
most trusted for museum projects.
SMBW Architects, an innovative Richmond-based firm specializing
in contemporary design as well as historical sites such as Richmond’s
Turning Basin.
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
Olin Partnership, a Philadephia-based firm famous for
beautiful and ecologically sound urban landscape design.
Olin Partnership will design VMFA’s new E. Claiborne and Lora
Robins Sculpture Garden — 3.5 acres of art, flowers, water features,
and green spaces — within the newly landscaped campus.
CONSULTING ENGINEERS
Hankins and Anderson Consulting Engineers, the
principal engineering consultant, based in Richmond.
Atelier Ten, noted environmental
and building services engineers with offices in New York and London.
Dewhurst Macfarlane and Partners, a transatlantic engineering
firm known for their innovative approach to structural materials, particularly
for daring façades employing new structural glass. The firm has
participated in a number of pioneering projects built in London by Rick
Mather Architects in the early ‘90s.
