VMFA has achieved an international reputation for creative excellence and innovative programming. The Museum houses a collection of world art ranging from antiquities to contemporary art, preserved as records of the best of human expression. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people are enriched by experiences visiting the Museum, going online for virtual website tours and interactive activities, participating in educational programs and social events, or attending traveling exhibitions, lectures, and workshops at one of our statewide partner venues.

Though VMFA receives state support for operational costs, more than 60% of the Museum’s funding is provided by private sources. VMFA relies on support from individuals, foundations, and corporations to continue its growing impact as an important cultural destination in Richmond, one of the State’s greatest educational assets, and a major influence on our quality of life.

An Investment in the Arts

The VMFA Fund has a tremendous impact on the operations of the Museum.

By becoming an Individual Patron you can support a variety of arts programming throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

As a Corporate Partner, your organization can help VMFA continue a long tradition of public-private cooperation.

Private contributions make it possible for Virginians to experience the best that the fine arts have to offer. Make an online contribution to support the following programs:

Education and Outreach Programs - touching the lives of nearly 300,000 people across the State, these programs bring fine arts to communities that may otherwise never experience them.

Student and Artist Fellowships - supporting thirty-eight Virginia artists and art students this year alone, with awards totaling $216,000. Since the programs inception in 1940, more than 900 fellowships have been awarded, totaling more than $3.4 million.

Special Exhibitions - bringing spectacular exhibitions to Virginia such as Bonjour Monsieur Courbet! The Bruyas Collection from the Musée Fabre, Montpellier.

The Educational Resource Room - providing Virginia’s teachers and students with valuable classroom materials and projects that meet the Standards of Learning requirements.

Art Library - providing significant primary and secondary resources for the study of the history, criticism, and theory of art in its 136,500 volumes, making it the largest art library in the Southeast.

Performing Arts - presenting events such as the Summer Interlude Concert Series, which prove that fine art does not always hang on walls.

And much, much more!
