In late November, the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) detected a compromise of VMFA’s website and evidence indicating an existing security threat from an unauthorized third-party. VMFA’s website has been taken offline while VITA security teams investigate, contain the incident, and work to restore the website’s full functionality. The temporary website, posted until the restoration is complete, was instituted to ensure continuity of service while the remediation is being conducted.
Please note that there is no evidence that any personal or financial information has been accessed or compromised. There is also no evidence that VMFA’s website issues are connected to those impacting the Virginia Legislature or any other state agency.
VMFA is committed to enhancing website security infrastructure in an effort to prevent incidents like this from happening again. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience. We hope to have our full website functionality restored soon.
The museum remains open and we look forward to welcoming you over the holidays.
