A NOTE FROM THE FOA PRESIDENTAs summer winds down, Friends of Art has been hard at work preparing for the 2009-2010 season that we are kicking off with our inaugural Bluegrass, Brews and Barbeque event (BBB). It is going to be a fantastic start to an incredible year for both Friends of Art and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. We are eager to carry the momentum of ending last year with over 400 members into the upcoming season and have a great event line-up planned; culminating with the museum’s grand re-opening in May.Friends of Art is indebted to its members, sponsors and the support of the museum as we continue to work towards our five-year, $50,000 endowment pledge to the Children’s Gallery at the VMFA. A big thanks is also due for the hard work and commitment of our board members, both new and returning, who have continued to go above and beyond the call of duty. This year we are thrilled to present a three part educational series on the “Art of Richmond” in addition to social events, a Holiday Happy Hour & Toy Drive and the sixth annual Art Auction held in conjunction with the museum’s Art After Hours series. This year’s auction will feature a fantastic variety of pieces donated by extremely talented and generous artists, based locally and beyond. Also, be sure to save the date now for our Fourth Annual Mardi Gras party taking place in the VMFA’s Marble Hall on February 27 those who have attended in the past know it is a celebration not to be missed! Finally, throughout the year, Friends of Art will be exploring more community outreach possibilities, so be on the lookout for updates on new volunteering opportunities. Please check out our calendar for more details on all of these events. If you have questions or are interested in joining or renewing your membership, please contact Friends of Art Coordinator Jenny Wortham at 804.204.2677 or Jenny.Wortham@vmfa.museum with any questions. I hope to see you all on Friday, September 18 for some delicious barbeque, brews (and wine) and Jackass Flats as we toast to an exciting year ahead!
