Upcoming Events
Trunk show featuring Sylvan Spirits Jewelry
Wed, Sep 8, noon – 4 pm
Maureen and Rebecca Worth, a mother-daughter team, create jewelry in botanical designs inspired by the natural setting of their home in Virginia. Flowers and leaves are sculpted in porcelain and stoneware clay, painted, and woven with pearls and other semi-precious stones. In addition to the colorful designs in clay, each collection is interpreted in sterling silver, 14K gold plate, or sometimes bronze. The rich tones of silver and gold are softened with the veined texture and gentle curves of each sculpted petal and leaf. We are very much looking forward to having Sylvan Spirit here with their collection for a trunk show on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 from noon to 4 pm. We hope to see you at this special event.
Trunk show featuring Bijou Graphique
Wed, Oct 13, noon – 4 pm
Bijou Graphique was started in 1995. Since that time, artists Dawn Estrin and George Wilson have combined forces to create a unique vision of what jewelry can be. The artists have lived and worked together for twenty years, both exploring many mediums and materials. Their work together reflects a common interest in themes such as art, romance, and humor. Bijou Graphique creates fine art sterling silver jewelry that features miniaturized photos and photomontages. Each piece is a window into a world of fantasies, romance and humor that captivates the wearer and those around them. We are looking forward to having the artists and their collection in the VMFA Shop for a trunk show on Wednesday, October 13th from noon to 4 pm.
Trunk show featuring Frankie Slaughter
Wed, Nov 10 & Thurs, Nov 11, noon – 4 pm
Drawing inspiration from wearable art in ancient cultures, mixed media artist and designer Frankie Slaughter takes her collage medium to another level by designing one-of-a-kind jackets. After living in Asia for nearly a decade, Frankie and her family returned to Virginia, where an appreciation of adornment emerged as a central theme in her work. Textures and forms which seemed ordinary to her in Asia became extraordinary for her here. Mixing and layering patterns and textures, Frankie combines textiles and ornaments from east and west, contemporary and vintage, with scraps from the workroom floor, blending the art and cultures from her travels with her life in Richmond, Virginia. We are looking forward to having this special collection here for a trunk show at the VMFA Shop on Wednesday November 10th and Thursday November 11th, 2010, both days from noon – 4 pm.
