Governor Appoints Two New Trustees to the VMFA Board

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced the appointment of two new members to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) Board of Trustees for a five-year term that began July 1, 2011.

“Michael Conners and Charles Seilheimer are wonderful additions to the board,” VMFA Board of Trustees President Thurston Moore said.  “Both trustees will be helpful with VMFA’s increased focus on technology and continued commitment to statewide initiatives.”

The new VMFA appointees are:

• Michael M. Conners of Washington, D.C.
Mr. Connors serves on the board of directors of Zhone Technologies, Inc., and was former president of AOL Technologies. He is currently president of The Connors Foundation and is a former trustee of The Phillips Collection.  Mr. Connors was educated at Stanford University where he received a B.S. in industrial engineering, a M.S. in statistics, and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics.   

• Charles H. Seilheimer, Jr. of Orange, VA
Mr. Seilheimer was founder and former president of Sotheby’s International Realty Corporation.  Recently, he founded Virginia Country Properties, Inc., and is president of The Seilheimer Foundation.   After receiving his law degree, Mr. Seilheimer served in a number of business and banking positions.  He volunteers his time to many non-profit causes, including historic preservation, the arts, and education. 

Last month, the governor appointed two new trustees and also reappointed three trustees who
were eligible for a second term. They are, respectively:

• Marlene A. Malek of McLean, community activist and patron of the arts
• Deborah H. Quillen of Bristol, Owner of Greater Wise, Inc. and Humphreys Enterprises, Inc.
• Steven A. Markel of Richmond, Vice Chairman of Markel Corporation
• Ranjit Kumar Sen of Richmond, Chief Advisor of Stefanini IT Solutions
• Dr. Shantaram K. Talegaonkar of Richmond, Ophthalmologist at Virginia Eye Institute
