The First Fridays series features an eclectic mix of multicultural performing arts showcased in different spaces within the museum. Take advantage of our extended hours on Friday evenings (we're open until 9 pm) to also stroll through the galleries, explore the VMFA Shop, or enjoy dinner and drinks in Amuse Restaurant or Friday Art & Wine at Best Café.

Ground Zero Dance Company
Atrium
Ground Zero Dance Company, the resident company of Dogtown Dance Theatre, will perform new work by Pam England and Rob Petres with appearances by Kat Legault, Victoria Fink, and Damion Bond. The company brings live performance to diverse audiences by creating and producing the work of company members as well as collaborations with other local, national, and international artists.

The Short Pump Symphonette
Atrium
The Short Pump Symphonette is an amazing 20-piece string orchestra showcasing both youth and adult performers. Their full sound fills the space with notes from classical and popular music favorites. Created primarily to provide orchestral instruction in the Short Pump area, they’ve progressed to performing in numerous venues around Richmond and have become an area favorite.

Argentine Hit & Run Tango

Join in the beauty and fun of Argentine tango by learning the steps and moves with experienced instructors from the tango community from 6 – 7 pm. Then show off your dancing skills at the practica from 7 – 8 pm. You don’t need a partner to participate, just come, learn, and enjoy the art of tango!

Bollywood Dance & Film Party
Marble Hall 
This special collaboration between VMFA’s Performing Arts Department and Adult Programs Department celebrates the exhibition, Maharaja: The Splendors of India’s Great Kings. Carl Hamm, aka DJ Carlito, has been bringing the colorful hits of India’s most popular films to Richmond for several years. Bollywood Dance & Film Party celebrates the rhythms and melodies of Indian cinema, commonly known as Bollywood and features the latest and classic Hindi and Punjabi (Bhangra) hits, as well as Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. Dance to the pulsing beat as the flashing images of Bollywood’s greatest films play on the big screen.
