Facility Rentals

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is an extraordinary venue for your special event. The historic buildings on our campus, in combination with our remarkable permanent collection of more than twenty thousand works of art, make the museum Richmond’s greatest cultural asset and the perfect choice for entertaining.

If you are hosting an intimate gathering, consider the Pauley Center, its architectural design based on 18th century plans for the White House. The reception rooms within are restored in the Colonial Revival style and provide a warm, inviting setting for your event. The Marble Hall in the main museum building is ideal for larger parties. Your guests will enjoy the striking architecture of the space, along with private access to paintings and sculpture in the surrounding galleries. Our largest event space, the Cochrane Atrium, will be housed within the McGlothlin Wing scheduled to open on May 1, 2010. The dramatic glass-enclosed area connects the new building with two existing wings and overlooks the Boulevard and new sculpture garden.

The special events staff at VMFA can manage all the details of your event, including catering, décor and entertainment needs. All event spaces, existing and future, are currently available for booking. VMFA can accommodate up to 2500 guests throughout the entire museum.

VMFA hosts a variety of events, including wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, corporate receptions, holiday parties, and non-profit events. To speak with an event coordinator, please call 804.340.1590 or contact us via e-mail.

Wedding Receptions at VMFA

The special events staff at VMFA will coordinate every aspect of your reception from first dance and cake cutting to a grand departure for the bride and groom. To speak with an event coordinator, please call 804.340.1590 or contact us via e-mail.

Museum Rules

Please help us protect the art and make the museum a pleasant experience for all visitors by following these simple rules:

Cameras and videos are permitted in our permanent collection areas only. Sorry, no tripods, flash, or artificial light allowed. No photographs or video are permitted in special exhibition galleries.

Visitors, volunteers, and staff are not to touch any works of art in the museum. Even the slightest fingerprint contains destructive chemicals that endanger even the hardest surfaces.

Shopping bags, backpacks, baby back-carriers, umbrellas, and all purses, briefcases, or packages measuring greater than 8"x13"x16", must be checked at the Coat Room (off the Main Lobby) before entering the galleries.

Food, beverages, candy, and gum are not allowed in the galleries.

Thank you.
